Another month of reading is over! And how quickly it went too…. I think that being so busy with things at the shop really had an impact on my brain and its ability to read properly. I picked up a lot of things over the summer, but I didn’t really read them properly – most of them I didn’t even finish – so it felt like a very frustrating little reading month for me.
It didn’t get off to a great start with my buddy read with Elena from Elena Reads Books over on YouTube – The Double-Edged Sword by Sarah Silverwood was a huge disappointment to us both – it wasn’t even worth finishing for me – and I am not sure if that really just set me up for a slumpy month of reading.
I did manage to read Nimona by Noelle Stevenson this month though – and I thoroughly enjoyed that read. This graphic novel had me laughing out loud in the shop (maybe not the best…) and the artwork was vibrant and enjoyable. It ended up being heartfelt and moving which I was really not expecting from a graphic novel (don’t ask me why – silly preconceptions I guess) and it has moved up the list of favourite reads from this year.
I sound like a broken record here – but I am not sure what I will be trying to read next! Perhaps it will be Middlemarch, perhaps Coastlines. It has gone distinctly autumnal weather-wise here, so I am already dreaming of reading in the snug warmth of my bed with storms raging outside, perhaps with a nice mug of something warm on the go. I always think that I will get going with some long, absorbing books in the autumn and winter – who know this year it might just happen. Or maybe I am speaking too soon – after all summer might put in one final appearance yet…
Let me know what you are reading at the moment – I love nosing at people’s reading choices!
PS – As always this project was started by Laura over at Circle of Pine Trees– go and say hi, her blog is gorgeous! You can find more information about The Year in Books project by visiting the page on her blog here.
